Application Guide
Application Guide | |||
This is a basic description of what the Snowblind moderation team expects to see in an application. This is not a step-by-step walkthrough on how to write to our specifications, but it will outline many of the elements we will be taking into consideration as we review your application. Background/Background Link This does not strictly have to be a link, but this should contain a basic summary of the events of your canon as they pertain to your character. We do not require a detailed summary of the entire canon and encourage players to include only the information that is necessary to describing and understanding their character. Inventory This is anything your want your character to arrive with in Snowblind. It should include any notable clothes they're wearing, jewelry they're wearing, and any pets they might be bringing along. Remember that you can only bring along one pet, and that if that pet has unusual abilities, anything that isn't noted in the flavor ability section will be nullified. World Description This section is for original characters only. It should include a general overview of your world; any special terms, situations, and politics that are relevant to your application should be explained here. This differs from character background because this is where you can include information that isn't strictly immediately relevant to your character but does inform the world in which they live in an important way. Personality The personality section is one of the most vital parts of the app. It should demonstrate critical thinking and more than just a shallow comprehension of a character's surface traits. In addition to describing how a character acts in canon, we expect to see an understanding of a their motivations and how these relate to their behavior. Further considerations would be how a character's behavior may differ in various situations and around various people, and what could reasonably be expected of them once they are exposed to Snowblind's setting, particularly if it's outside the realm of what they have experienced in their canon. Flavor Abilities These are superficial abilities which do not grant a character a significant survival advantage. Things such as color-changing hair, glowing skin, or an innate connection to a location would all be allowed. However, any considerable benefits that might be conferred to the character as a result of these abilities--such as healing hair, durable skin, or a lengthened lifespan--would be nullified. Biological abilities afforded to non-human characters, such as flight with the aid of wings or breathing underwater with the aid of gills, would also be nullified. All flavor abilities that you wish to play with MUST be included in your application, so please think carefully. Playing with an ability that was not included in your application is grounds for a warning. Suitability In this section, we're looking for a some ideas of things your character might do in the setting and ways they might react to its various aspects and themes. It's perfectly fine if you end up not using these ideas in the game, but we would like to know that you will be able to interact with the setting and atmosphere with the character you're applying for. RP Samples Along with the personality section, one of the most vital parts of your application. We would like a minimum of two samples. At least one should be based around network-style communication, as that will play a major role in Snowblind. We also request that at least one thread take place within Snowblind's setting from the perspective of an already settled character--we don't want to see an introduction used as an RP sample, because it's difficult to get the character's individuality across in an introduction thread. If you use a thread between your character and someone else (which is recommended), we would like to see at least ten comments from your character. It's important to include both introspection and dialog in your samples, because we are using this section to see how you go about the actual roleplaying of your character. We want to make sure it matches up with canon and with the rest of your application. If you have one thread with more than ten comments from your character and another with less, we will accept this as long as combined they add up to twenty. | |||
