Search Requests (OLD) | |||
Characters are allowed to travel across already traveled upon squares without mod intervention, but if they are traveling across unexplored squares or want to search buildings and other areas, you will have to post here. How much searching and traveling your character can do is based on the weather, any movement penalties your character may have, and any events that may otherwise hinder travel. Common sources of movement penalties are injury and being over-encumbered--if you want to try and drag a mattress around with you, don't expect to get anywhere very quickly! The base amount your character can travel is divided up by area of the map and then split between safe and potentially unsafe travel. Travel is on a per-square basis; safe travel is how many squares you can move and still have time to find a place to shelter for the night--you could reasonably expect to be able to backtrack a bit and settle down in a house if you find yourself in an empty square, while unsafe travel means you're traveling right up until the 8PM lockdown. If you end up in an empty square at that point, your character will be locked outside and die overnight of exposure. The time it takes your character to search is split into a quick search and a thorough search. SEARCHING HAPPENS ON A PER-BUILDING BASIS, NOT A PER-SQUARE BASIS. A quick search of a location gives you more time to travel; a thorough search gives you less time but can yield a larger quantity of items, as well as items that would be better-hidden. By default, a quick search uses up one square of travel time, while a thorough search uses two. Especially large buildings will take longer to explore completely, but these will be noted as they are found. As far as what you can find, typically they will be items normally associated with whatever sort of building you're in. There might be more unusual items in certain areas, though... In the case of certain buildings, things can be assumed to be included in the rooms even if they are not specifically outlined in the descriptions. There are no electronics in homes unless specifically noted. Unless otherwise noted in a specific description, assume the following is in each residential home that has these rooms mentioned: Living Room: couch, armchair, end tables, television stand, bookcases Kitchen: cupboards, counters/counter tops with drawers Dining Room: dining room table, chairs (default is six chairs) Office: desk, chair Nursery: crib, rocking chair, changing station, small dresser Bedroom: bed frame, mattress, dresser, nightstand Master Bedroom: bed frame, mattress, large dresser, two nightstands Bathroom: toiletries Electricity and running water should not be assumed to occur in a house and will be noted in case of a house having these things. If water is mentioned, it defaults to cold water. We encourage you to do your planned traveling all at once so we can get you your results as quickly as possible, but don't worry if IC circumstances lead to your character traveling twice in one day! You can comment again and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. While you're traveling in this manner, if at any point your character would come across something unusual or something they would have to react to, we will pause your travel there to allow you to see what they've come across and react accordingly. Anything Else? Enoch is primarily looking for clothing or fabric and sewing supplies to make it with, including shoes and/or anything to make simple soft shoes out of. He is also keeping an eye out for anything that might contain information on the area, and food. He'll start by thoroughly examining the building he wakes up in, including around it, and only if he still has anything missing will he venture out into the rest of the square, primarily searching westward. He will venture into S1 if he is still insufficiently clothed, but at that point will be worried about frostbite and will return to building 67 if he doesn't find shelter in his search of S1.

Day 002

Anything Else? Better shoes or not, he's sensitive to the atmosphere and doesn't exert himself too much today. He's looking for sturdy rope and/or strips of leather today (he's going to try to make a shovel with the scrap metal and a side of the bedframe if that gives you an idea of the length/strength he's looking for) as well as information on the town, in particular hints on the location of the town hall seen in the photo album he picked up, and events in general. Books especially will be paid attention to, though he'll only skim them and opt to take them with him if they appear useful. He'll be responding to any ghostly presences, apologizing for what he takes, if that makes any difference at all.

V1 - he's just looking for buildings at this point. If he finds one he'll stay in it, if not he'll turn back around for either anything in U1 or to try to return to T1
Anything Else? The injection unsettles him and on top of that appears to have done nothing to calm the paranoia, because cabin fever is starting to set in. He wants out. He tries to keep up his search for strong leather or rope for his shovel project, or things to make clothes out of, or food, or information on the town, but decides to risk striking one square out further instead of doubling back like he has the past two days.

R1 - anything - QUICKLY if rubble, THOROUGHLY if building and he'll stop for the night. If rubble or nothing, move on to the next.
Q1 - just looking at what's here. If there is a building here he'll stop here and search it when he's locked in. If not, he'll press on westward in the hopes of finding a building. (which would be in O1 - out of his reach)
Anything Else? Enoch saw houses to the west when he'd climbed up the tower in the park so west it is. He's going to take more chunks out of the mattress in T1 before he leaves, as well as pick up that piece of scrap metal to take with him if it's still there. Whether the metal is or isn't, he's going to take one of the short edges of the bedframe to use as a poor man's crowbar if he needs it. Or hammer or weapon (he hopes not on that last one).
He'll still be looking for rope or leather too, since those are useful either way, along with clothing - shoes and shirts/coats in particular. He is at this point also paying special attention to looking for food as well as the usual: information on the town, the location of the town hall, the tablets, anything. He's not particularly looking for water since he's filling up one of his empty water bottles with snow now that he's collected three of them, but he won't say no to running water making it easier to refill that bottle.

Anything Else? Though he hasn't yet responded to it, Al mentioning the walls led to a corner has led Enoch to suspect that they're fenced in. As such, he's now trying to find the center where this town hall might be, so that means breaking away from the wall of snow. All the while, he's still looking for information of any sort on the town, its history, or why they're here, along with food, rope or leather for his shovel, or sewing supplies.

Anything Else? He's limiting his travel again, those crude shoes are probably not holding up very well anymore, especially after not being given any time to dry out in the mysteriously leaky house 80. He'll search the rest of the square today since he beelined for shelter yesterday and then head on to the next (he'll only approach the rubble in R4 if there's something particularly interesting in there visible without actually wading into it).
As usual, he is searching for rope and/or leather and/or strong cloth, sewing supplies, food, tools, proper shoes, and information (particularly in books). He's curious about the little cards people have been finding and will be watching for them as well.

R7 - heading straight for the first building he sees, he'll search it thoroughly if he gets in, and if there are no buildings there he'll move on to
R8 - and hope beyond hope there's a building here because otherwise he's just dead.
Anything Else? Seventh verse, same as the first. In spite of the tablet becoming horrifying, Enoch is still looking for clothing, fabric, sewing supplies, shoes, food, and information. He won't say no to tools that look useful, and more wooden things would be nice too.
Regardless of where he is locked in, if he is locked in since he is venturing into unknown territory, he will perform a very thorough search to try to abate the paranoia (also very thorough because he will probably try to pick up things that aren't there a few times too...).

Anything Else? Enoch is trying to find the center of the area and, having overshot it on the north-south axis, is trying to reorient himself while still moving in what he hopes is the right direction on the east-west one - on top of that, he ate the last of his rations today (since he didn't eat anything due to the nausea on day 2), so he doesn't feel he has the luxury of guessing where things are and is searching primarily for food, though he is also looking for the same things he was before - clothes and information (in particular books and SD cards), as well as more useful lengths of leather/rope (though at this rate he's prooobably going to wind up tying the throw blanket to the end of the bedframe piece instead to make it into a bindle).

What Are They Doing? He's taking one of the thicker dinosaur books. He didn't get the chance to be properly curious about the things what with the paranoia and panic and the distressing screams of pain and doesn't want to sit around when he could be out trying to figure out what in the world is going on. Don't know if this modifies the description any since he's only taking one, but he's taking it.

Anything Else? He's still trying to find the center and being dumb and not really working as part of the group effort Al and Stephanie are trying to get going. So he'll wind up going north and realizing he overshot it and turning west to see if he can see any tall structures. He'll find the two in L4 instead and give up for the day because he's going to start wanting for energy - speaking of, he's still trying to gather food! And clothes and/or things to make them with. PRESERVES. WHY DOES NOBODY SEEM TO MAKE THEM ANYMORE. Also yeah information would be really nice.

H7 - 30 first floor southwest wing - THOROUGHLY until forced to leave (he will think he can stay in a classroom), at which point:
IF FORCED TO EXIT ON THE WEST SIDE: he will run for building 29 because I'm assuming it's the first thing he'll see. He will search it THOROUGHLY if he gets locked in.
IF FORCED TO EXIT ON THE EAST SIDE: he will panic, knowing where he just was is too far away, and sprint/run when he no longer can sprint due south and hope to hit a building in time, which he probably will not.
Anything Else? Still searching for info and anything even remotely useful for survival now that food is safe - I don't know which side he's forced to exit on so I provided something for both scenarios. Also as he realizes he is being forced to leave, he will start recording a video and tie the tablet to his body with the camera exposed, using the blanket he found on day 4 as a rope (discarding the bedframe piece and throw pillow to free his hands while he is unable to stop). He will attempt to angle his body to deliberately have the camera linger on particularly deep shadows as he leaves, if he is able. If he's going to be sent to his death...
Also he will keep the tablet recording throughout his time outside, up to and including the moment he dies of exposure, if he does - and anything after as it is able.

Anything Else? okay firstly he is really unnerved by the atmosphere and just wants to get the hell out of there, but he also knows there might be something important here so he just stays long enough to do a cursory examination and then gets out and just goes south until he hits something he can stay in. Once he's in there and has had a chance to calm down he'll do a proper search and then sit down to review his recording and stuff other than sleep because like hell he'll be able to do that tonight. He's honestly looking for anything curious or useful here, because his search is also doubling as a distraction from the weirdness of not knowing his own face in the mirror.

Though he's primarily following the Call, it's more curiosity than lack of willpower to resist, so he has enough of his wits to pocket anything of use he may find (and stop early), though you may want to limit his results in the final search if it would stretch through lockdown since he will stop the moment the night brings the most intense symptoms.

They will then backtrack to G6 and spend the night in 29 again. Enoch will THOROUGHLY search the shed after curfew to see if anything changed in their absence since apparently Clayton was finding things during the monster trap episode.
Anything Else? Enoch wants to investigate the voice he heard on 011 so he's back, with Clayton traveling along. Immediately on reaching the northwest wing, he'll call out, "I'm the one you called for, are you still here?" If he receives no reply, he'll THOROUGHLY search until either he does or the time for a full thorough search has been used. If not, he'll follow the voice up to the point it involves moving more squares than is safe. He is being very cautious with his time after dying to it once.

Anything Else? Enoch is leaving Clayton to rest and going to search building 47 again since they didn't have much time to look through it the previous day. Since he's searching at Clayton's request, rather than the usual, he's just looking for anything that stands out; he'll be bringing anything he finds in 47 back to Clayton (unless of course it's a monster) and they'll hash out who keeps what and what gets thrown out. He's then going to search 40 again in case new stuff appeared overnight like it somehow did when the monsters were about.

Anything Else? Thundersnow! He's trapped with Clayton exactly where they ended up last night, of course. The cabin fever has Enoch restless so he's going to go rummage around in the basement. He's not looking for anything in particular, just anything he might have missed the day before.

Anything Else? Clayton's search request summed it up pretty well. Their travel plan hinges on whether or not Clayton has a movement penalty (including Enoch helping him), mechanically speaking. Enoch is looking for anything useful but is paying special attention for (labeled) medical supplies, clothes or things to make them, or books (or an SD card but chances are slim).

Anything Else? Still with Clayton, still helping him get places because of his recovering foot. They're coming this way for fresh water and Enoch's still looking for things he's been looking for all along, more or less.
Additionally, out of curiosity since they've traveled this way before, he's going to record a stretch of the trip to see if there's any distortion or anything, since that seems to be a thing that happens when something noteworthy (like DEAD BODIES AND PHANTOM SEVERED BODY PARTS) is around.
