Search Requests

Search Requests

For the most part, characters are allowed to travel from uncovered square to uncovered square and gather basic items on their own, provided they announce what they're taking on the appropriate page. However, it's important that we can keep track of how everyone is moving daily, and you and your characters may want to search for more plot-relevant items. There are also squares on the map that no one has traveled to, and remain a mystery until explicitly uncovered. Thus, the search page has been created for this use.

You must report your character's movements in your thread. We want to make sure you haven't made any math mistakes and keep characters from accidentally teleporting around the map, for one, and we also want to make sure your character gets to experience any location-relevant situations. We will respond to your characters' movement updates within 48 hours with any monsters they would have run into that day and anything that would happen of note on a specific square your character traveled through, in addition to pointing out any math errors. In the case of monster encounters, while the day they happen on is random, you will be able to select exactly where they encounter them. You will have to respond to us telling us how the character(s) handled the monster. Unless something unusual happens, we will not reply to your character movement updates.

How much searching and traveling your character can do is based on the weather, any movement penalties your character may have, and any events that may otherwise hinder travel. Common sources of movement penalties are injury and being over-encumbered--if you want to try and drag a mattress around with you, don't expect to get anywhere very quickly!

Travel and search are based on the squares of the map, and all actions are discussed in terms of squares. All searching uses up squares, which means every search reduces the amount of squares your character can travel. No searching is a free action, and is added on top of square movement, so make sure to double check your math! Moving to a square and searching a building in that square both have to be thought of as separate things, not as using the same amount of time. We will provide a limit of the amount of squares your characters have to act which encompass all actions a character takes that day; if they go over that limit, they will not be able to do anything beyond the last action that would have used up a legitimate block of time.

Much like finding normal items, searches are split up into quick searches and thorough searches. A quick search takes up one square of travel time per building or area searched, while a thorough search takes up two squares of travel time per building or area searched. If you thoroughly search three buildings on one square, that would take up all of your movement at once, two per building searched.

First, reply to this thread to make a top level comment where all of your location check-ins and advanced search requests will go. This thread should have your character's name in the subject line. Make sure to reference the setting page where necessary and let us know who is travelling with you. You can also use the character location spreadsheet that lists where characters are on various days, so you can more easily see where everyone is and how it relates to your character. This is player-updated, so feel free to make a row for your character and start adding where they've been! Additionally, there is a player-created and player-run character travel map that can be used, if you would like a more visual way to track things! Note that this is optional and not all characters may be included here.

To inform us your character is searching for plot-relevant items or traveling into unexplored squares, use the following form, making sure to put the IC day in the subject line. Note that you will not always successfully find something, and the more specific you are in explaining how your character is searching, the better.


If your character would like to alter something written in the basic description of a square or building, this is also the place to put that! For example, if your character really is going to give dragging a mattress around a try, they can take one from a house if you let us know. We can both adjust the descriptions of the locations and tell you potential results/penalties. To do this, fill out the following form and reply to your top level, making sure to note the IC date in the subject line:

Notes: Ecks is still alone and still trying to go unseen as she makes her way back and forth between houses. Once again she is leaving her grocery basket in 113 for the day, this time after filling it with four days' worth of her heavier foodstuffs and tucking it into a corner in a closet in order to reduce her load, on the assumption that it's what she's most willing to lose if something goes wrong and she doesn't make it back to the house tonight. I'm aware that cabin fever will still take effect despite the daily movements if she continues to sleep in this house every night.

Location Alteration
Location: Building 117, living room; and building 113, master bedroom closet
What Are They Doing? In building 117 (Ull), Ecks will remove two couch cushions, assuming she can carry both of them (her arms will be unencumbered, as everything she's still carrying is in her backpack or in one of her many many pockets). She will take just one cushion if she can't manage two.

In building 113 (V10), Ecks will arrange all of her couch cushions to form a nest, including the remains of the one she's been cutting up (about half the fabric will be missing by the time she's done with it, as well as several chunks of foam filling). Assuming the master bedroom has a closet large enough for a person to lay down in it, that is where she will build her nest (if not, she will seek out another closet large enough -- if there are none at all she'll use a corner of a downstairs bedroom). She will not be taking any part of this nest with her when she eventually moves on.

does it look like the book inside the cover has simply degraded to the point of no return or is it completely void of pages? also is there anything on the inside of the cover.
also also, if it's a hard cover book brian will cut open the back cover (from the edge) by a few inches to see if there's anything else inside it.

Anything Else? LET'S TRY THIS AGAIN. He'll be ripping out the blank pages between the title and last pages and the book cover in one of his books. He'll write two letters, one addressed to James Wilson at Princeton Plainsboro Teaching Hospital, and one addressed to the The President of the United States of America.

To Wilson the letter reads:
Wilson,
If you're reading this, I am already dead.

Isn't that how these kinds of letters start? Who the hell even knows? I've died once. Some other guy just tried to strangle me. Another guy beat me to a pulp and drank my blood. That was fun. Maybe I should have mentioned the rabies. Anyway, I'm trapped in Silent Hill or the Matrix or some combination. This probably isn't going to work. It's probably just you ADMIN dicks reading. It's supposed to be 2050. You're probably in a retirement home if you aren't already dead.

Anyway, the Matrix is apparently called Norfinbury, Alaska. This might all have been a really wicked trip, too, so send somebody here. Like the Army? Seriously, I have no freaking idea what's going on here. There are something like 50 people trapped in this town without power.

Tell Cuddy this so counts as Clinic hours, by the way. Like every Clinic hour I've ever owed her.

My name is Dr. Gregory House, formerly Head of Diagnostic Medicine at Princeton-Plainsboro Teaching Hospital. Recently, I traveled to Alaska, specifically the town of Norfinbury. While there are many notable and interesting sights in Norfinbury, my real reason for coming, to discuss the latest in NIMA research and MN Poisoning with Ms. Jia Xu, was not possible.

She and the rest of the residents of Norfinbury have disappeared. Where they've gone, I don't know. I'm very concerned for the state of the town and its residents, and would urge an immediate investigative team be dispatched.

Anything Else? House and Joker are going to be attempting to see into the vents while the time warp is on and also gauge if the vent spiders have been affected by this exciting time warp development. SLOWMO SPIDER CAPTURE???

House will be sacrificing his tablet for the cause and taping it to a hose that Joker has acquired. The tablet (apart from the portion where the camera/screen is) will also be slathered in glue-stick glue to make it sticky for tiny robot feet. They'll lower/push the tablet into the vent with the hose while setting it to 'on' for recording purposes and transmitting to Joker and Al's tablets. They'll put the tablet in as far as they can go.

If that nets nothing, they'll pull it back out, turn the tablet off and repeat. If they feel any movement/tugging on the end of the hose, they'll attempt to pull it out as fast as their slowmo selves can do it.
