Search Requests

Search Requests

For the most part, characters are allowed to travel from uncovered square to uncovered square and gather basic items on their own, provided they announce what they're taking on the appropriate page. However, it's important that we can keep track of how everyone is moving daily, and you and your characters may want to search for more plot-relevant items. There are also squares on the map that no one has traveled to, and remain a mystery until explicitly uncovered. Thus, the search page has been created for this use.

You must report your character's movements in your thread. We want to make sure you haven't made any math mistakes and keep characters from accidentally teleporting around the map, for one, and we also want to make sure your character gets to experience any location-relevant situations. We will respond to your characters' movement updates within 48 hours with any monsters they would have run into that day and anything that would happen of note on a specific square your character traveled through, in addition to pointing out any math errors. In the case of monster encounters, while the day they happen on is random, you will be able to select exactly where they encounter them. You will have to respond to us telling us how the character(s) handled the monster. Unless something unusual happens, we will not reply to your character movement updates.

How much searching and traveling your character can do is based on the weather, any movement penalties your character may have, and any events that may otherwise hinder travel. Common sources of movement penalties are injury and being over-encumbered--if you want to try and drag a mattress around with you, don't expect to get anywhere very quickly!

Travel and search are based on the squares of the map, and all actions are discussed in terms of squares. All searching uses up squares, which means every search reduces the amount of squares your character can travel. No searching is a free action, and is added on top of square movement, so make sure to double check your math! Moving to a square and searching a building in that square both have to be thought of as separate things, not as using the same amount of time. We will provide a limit of the amount of squares your characters have to act which encompass all actions a character takes that day; if they go over that limit, they will not be able to do anything beyond the last action that would have used up a legitimate block of time.

Much like finding normal items, searches are split up into quick searches and thorough searches. A quick search takes up one square of travel time per building or area searched, while a thorough search takes up two squares of travel time per building or area searched. If you thoroughly search three buildings on one square, that would take up all of your movement at once, two per building searched.

For example, if your character really is going to give dragging a mattress around a try, they can take one from a house if you let us know. We can both adjust the descriptions of the locations and tell you potential results/penalties. so if someone were to access this video after getting a new tablet, would they be able to rewatch it without tablet death? or copy the parts of it before the ligtining to a safer video?

First, they will throw water bottles in each corner/direction of the room to make sure another bear trap will not happen, or there aren't any hidden buttons to press on the floors.

Next, they will tape three tablets together and set them to send a video message to the fourth tablet in their possession. They will attach a dog leash around the tablets and tie it to a hockey stick. They will scoot their tablets across the floor with the same hockey stick. They will be investigating the walls and ceiling for any signs of a trap or anything weird.

Kunsel will be taking lead with a torso sized piece of metal as a shield. They will poke and prod various places with their second hockey stick.

Zack will hold the door open as he watches their rear and the feed.

They will be looking very carefully for any more traps and for anything shiny. Is there anything inside of the glass cases when they inspect them closely?

Paranoia is still driving pretty hard in their minds after what happened with the last two doors. Kunsel gestures for the others to back off as far as they can - though Zack stubbornly stays only a few steps away. Zell and Jim hover in the doorway, making sure nothing comes at them from behind or closes the door on them.

Still expecting a trap - maybe a gas? - Kunsel and Zack both recommend that they cover their noses and mouths. Scraps of fabric, towels, whatever they have, and doused in water and wrapped around their faces will do the trick. Holding the piece of scrap rubble close to his body as a shield, Kunsel reaches out with his other hand to lift the handle on the glass case with the key, slowly and carefully, paying close attention for anything that might happen next.

If nothing happens, he will claim the gray key.

Using a hammer, screwdriver, and various sharp implements, the group will be testing and opening up holes in the walls to see if they find anything.

Jim will be using his butcher knife to try to cut into one of the mannequins’ torso.

Zell will be taking one mannequin apart to switch parts around with the mannequins in the front window of the store.

155- They are going use hockey sticks to poke around in the water to make sure there is nothing in there. Jim and Zell are dumping dish soap into the fountain’s water to make soapy, bubbly water. Frozen bubbles. *^*

164- They are going to check the media rooms (for games and movies) thoroughly for any SD cards. Will be opening every book they find the library and quickly flipping through the pages and shaking them out for any sd cards or notes. They will climb the book shelves carefully and check the top of them for anything. Check all the tables and desks for SD cards or notes. Checking for any graffiti on the desk of any names or anything else. Checking under the tables for anything that might be stuck to the bottom and hoping it’s not old gum.
Kunsel is going to search the library especially carefully where it looked like there might have been electronics or video/game things. Searching the cracks and underneath chairs, shelves, reference material, etc...in case any SD cards or electronic components were missed.
They will check the walls for anything sounds using Jim’s stethoscope. They also will be using the magnifying glass to go detective on anything that looks interesting (like where the electronics used to be, the study desks, or librarian desks).
They will try to use their tablets on some of the computer desks much like the video for the school showed the kids were doing to see if they get any names flashing on the screen or if there is a reaction.

Once lockdown hits, they will be lighting up some candles they have and placing them in pots/pans to help light up the dark shed (with water bottles on standby just in case of of an accident) as well as placing their tablets leaning against things to let them see better. They will be working overnight on sorting through the remains of the storage shed.
They are looking for any SD cards, notes, messages, or names written or hidden inside of the storage unit. They are looking for clues on if any of the named residents of town used it or if they can find a new name.
