The light they cast is dim, but certainly better than nothing. It seems like the room is completely devoid of furniture. There's something drawn on the walls, and something gleaming in the back. Swinging the hockey pucks around doesn't trigger any traps, at least.
The hockey puck, when thrown, is cut clean in half with a loud, dramatic snap of metal. It looks like they triggered a bear trap that's been painted over with black paint so as to not reflect the light. It's stuck tight to the ground and can't be removed, but it's not going to be a danger at this point unless they open it up again.
