Basic Item Availability

Basic Item Availability

A lot of your character's time will be spent traveling around squares that have already been searched, looking for basic supplies. While these items are limited, you are not required to ask us to give you items. Instead, this post is designed to work as a quick, autonomous reference for what basic supplies have been available and what basic supplies have been taken in each house. There is a finite amount of supplies in Norfinbury at any time. Items refill monthly, the first IC day after applications close (in order to be fair to new players), and while it would take quite a bit of effort, it would be theoretically possible to empty Norfinbury of items except for things found in unlimited quantities and the few areas that have a constant supply of food. Be careful!

Item Availability Spreadsheet
Items will refresh ICly on morning 369 and OOCly on June 9th.

This is a read-only reference of the items available in each building. The first sheet is a key, and then following sheets will list item availability by month. The description in each cell is very basic in the case of players who would like to completely randomize their characters' items and know as little as possible before locking in their choices, but you can hover over item cells to get more specific information on the properties of the items.

The key is a simple, color-coded one. It's described in the spreadsheet, but works as follows: green items can be found during any search, yellow items can be found only during thorough search requests, and red items can be found only during thorough search requests and count as two items. You are limited to a maximum amount of items per search based on the kind of search it is. You may take a maximum of two items during a quick search and a maximum of four items during a thorough search.

Once you have either selected or randomly rolled your items, you must reply to the building's top level stating what you're taking. Make sure to note the IC day in the subject line so as to not cause confusion. Every single building has its own top level, with 25 buildings per page. These top levels will be cleared out regularly, but will as a general rule have the items found from the current month and the month immediately previous. When we see that an item has been taken, we will strike it out on the spreadsheet, but you can always see the absolute most up-to-date items taken simply by looking at the thread.

Now, there are often discrepancies between the IC and OOC days things are happening. Someone can be taking items for day 36 a day before someone goes through to take their day 35 items. To minimize confusion, this rule is in effect: items are taken on an OOC first come, first serve basis. It doesn't matter if your character ICly showed up first, if the player already took the item OOCly, it cannot be found by your character.

The Rubble Exception: Things found in the rubble are limited to a small amount of often useless items, but they are always unlimited. You are still limited to a maximum of two or four items based on your type of search, but you can always find these possible items in the rubble: 2x4s in various states of rot and wetness, nails in various states of rust, screws in various states of rust, small sharp handfuls of scrap metal, pieces of drywall no larger than an average human torso, handfuls of insulation, large pieces of scrap metal with a maximum size of an average human torso, and pieces of glass. Because these items are always the same and always unlimited, you don't have to note this beyond mentioning in your travel updates that your character searched the rubble.

Remember, searches take up travel time. Quick searches are not included in basic square travel time, they are added on top. If your character moves one square and quickly searches the building in that square, that adds one square for movement and one square for the search, making two squares of movement. It does not equal one square total. If your character moves one square and thoroughly searches the building in that square, that would be one square of movement plus two squares of search for a total of three squares used up. Searches are per building and area, not per square. This means that if you travel to a square, quickly search the rubble outside, and quickly search the building, that is one square for movement, one square for searching outside, and one square for searching the building, adding up to three squares.

In the case of certain buildings, things can be assumed to be included in the rooms even if they are not specifically outlined in the descriptions. There are no electronics in homes unless specifically noted. Unless otherwise noted in a specific description, assume the following is in each residential home that has these rooms mentioned:
Living Room: couch, armchair, end tables, television stand, bookcases
Kitchen: cupboards, counters/counter tops with drawers
Dining Room: dining room table, chairs (default is six chairs)
Office: desk, chair
Nursery: crib, rocking chair, changing station, small dresser
Bedroom: bed frame, mattress, dresser, nightstand
Master Bedroom: bed frame, mattress, large dresser, two nightstands
Bathroom: disposable feminine hygiene products, toilet paper

Electricity and running water should not be assumed to occur in a house and will be noted in case of a house having these things. If water is mentioned, it defaults to cold water.

In order to record your characters' travels, attempt to alter the setting, or search for plot-relevant items, please use this post.

To search for items left in buildings by other characters, or have your character leave items in a building, please use this post.
