Search Requests (OLD)
Search Requests (OLD) | |||
Characters are allowed to travel across already traveled upon squares without mod intervention, but if they are traveling across unexplored squares or want to search buildings and other areas, you will have to post here. How much searching and traveling your character can do is based on the weather, any movement penalties your character may have, and any events that may otherwise hinder travel. Common sources of movement penalties are injury and being over-encumbered--if you want to try and drag a mattress around with you, don't expect to get anywhere very quickly! The base amount your character can travel is divided up by area of the map and then split between safe and potentially unsafe travel. Travel is on a per-square basis; safe travel is how many squares you can move and still have time to find a place to shelter for the night--you could reasonably expect to be able to backtrack a bit and settle down in a house if you find yourself in an empty square, while unsafe travel means you're traveling right up until the 8PM lockdown. If you end up in an empty square at that point, your character will be locked outside and die overnight of exposure. The time it takes your character to search is split into a quick search and a thorough search. SEARCHING HAPPENS ON A PER-BUILDING BASIS, NOT A PER-SQUARE BASIS. A quick search of a location gives you more time to travel; a thorough search gives you less time but can yield a larger quantity of items, as well as items that would be better-hidden. By default, a quick search uses up one square of travel time, while a thorough search uses two. Especially large buildings will take longer to explore completely, but these will be noted as they are found. As far as what you can find, typically they will be items normally associated with whatever sort of building you're in. There might be more unusual items in certain areas, though... In the case of certain buildings, things can be assumed to be included in the rooms even if they are not specifically outlined in the descriptions. There are no electronics in homes unless specifically noted. Unless otherwise noted in a specific description, assume the following is in each residential home that has these rooms mentioned: Living Room: couch, armchair, end tables, television stand, bookcases Kitchen: cupboards, counters/counter tops with drawers Dining Room: dining room table, chairs (default is six chairs) Office: desk, chair Nursery: crib, rocking chair, changing station, small dresser Bedroom: bed frame, mattress, dresser, nightstand Master Bedroom: bed frame, mattress, large dresser, two nightstands Bathroom: toiletries Electricity and running water should not be assumed to occur in a house and will be noted in case of a house having these things. If water is mentioned, it defaults to cold water. We encourage you to do your planned traveling all at once so we can get you your results as quickly as possible, but don't worry if IC circumstances lead to your character traveling twice in one day! You can comment again and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. While you're traveling in this manner, if at any point your character would come across something unusual or something they would have to react to, we will pause your travel there to allow you to see what they've come across and react accordingly. Residential Zone One: August 18 - August 31 September 1 - September 30 Residential Zone Two: August 18 - August 31 September 1 - September 30 Ice Caves: August 18 - August 31 September 1 - September 30 First, reply to this thread to make a top level comment where all of your search threads will go. This thread should have your character's name in the subject line. To travel into unexplored territory or search, fill out the following form, making sure to reference the setting page where necessary and let us know who is travelling with you, and reply to your own thread: If your character would like to alter something written in the basic description of a square or building, this is also the place to put that! For example, if your character really is going to give dragging a mattress around a try, they can take one from a house if you let us know. We can both adjust the descriptions of the locations and tell you potential results/penalties. To do this, fill out the following form and reply to your top level: Finally, we have a character location spreadsheet that lists where characters are on various days, so you can more easily see where everyone is and how it relates to your character. This is player-updated, so feel free to make a row for your character and start adding where they've been! | |||
Jay Merrick | Marble Hornets
Day 001
Squares Traveled: 2 - one square out and return to start
Areas Searched:
E5 - 31 and surroundings - THOROUGHLY
E6 - any buildings - THOROUGHLY
Anything Else? He'll be looking for any kind of technological items, even nonworking ones, as well as tools and anything that could be used as an easily carried weapon. In E6 and upon his return to building 31, he'll pay particular attention to any signs of former residents.
He'll also be recording his search on the video function on his tablet.
no subject
E6 reveals two intact houses side by side (34 and 35). If he thoroughly searches both of them, he will be stuck in the one he searches last for the night. Would you like to do this, and if so, which will he search first?

Day 002
Squares Traveled: 4 - returning to E6 from E7
Areas Searched:
D6 - any buildings - THOROUGHLY
D7, E7 - any buildings - QUICKLY
Anything Else? He'll be primarily looking for clothes, shirts in particular, but in D6 will also stop to look for signs of former residents. After that paranoia will start creeping in and he'll rush it, only bothering to go through dressers and other likely locations for clothing. Whether he finds anything or not, he'll run back to house 34 well before nightfall.
As before, he's making a video record of everything.

D6 contains only rubble, with no buildings to search. D6 and E7 are similar.

Day 003
Squares Traveled: 6
Areas Searched:
F6 - any buildings - QUICKLY
G6 - any buildings - QUICKLY
H7 - any buildings - QUICKLY
I7 - any buildings - QUICKLY
J7 - any buildings - QUICKLY
K7 - any buildings - THOROUGHLY
Anything Else? He's still primarily looking for clothes, though if any kind of medical or technological supplies are easily found he'll grab those too. He'll be rushing along to get as far as he can, stopping for the night in the first building he'll (hopefully) find in K7. If there are no buildings, he'll just be shit out of luck.
As always, he'll be filming everything.

F6 contains only empty snow, with nothing to search.
G6 contains half of building 29. At this point, it's clear a large building looms ahead--it wasn't visible before due to the snow, but it's obvious there's an elementary school nearby.
The entrance to building 29 is on this side; its description is as follows: A small shed outside the school, going inside reveals sports equipment is being stored in here. There are hurdles, various sports balls, giant mats, and the like. There's nothing that could be used as a weapon, though, unless you're going to try to hurl a basketball at someone's head. This is the only place on the campus it's possible to stay in overnight--if you try to stay anywhere else, you'll be made to leave at 7PM.
H7 contains one section of the elementary school; this block doesn't have an entrance, but it's clear the building has torn in half just to the north. This building is quite large and would take a full day to search the whole thing; given the implications of this being a campus, it also means there aren't likely to be many buildings to stay in overnight especially close by except for the one he's already found. What will Jay do?

Day 004
Squares Traveled: 3
Areas Searched:
H6 - the school - QUICKLY
I6 - the school - QUICKLY
J6 - anything there - THOROUGHLY
Anything Else? He'll go through the school as quickly as he can, not really bothering to look around much unless something unusual catches his eye.
Assuming he finds a building that can be stayed in overnight in J6, he'll search it for clothes and tools and stay there.
As always, he'll be filming everything.

The school is described on the settings page as building 30; it's really long, so I won't paste it in here since it's already there. There's a first and second floor to the school and both are accessible; will he check both?

Day 006
Squares Traveled: No more than six including searches - they'll be exploring the school and then ducking back into building 29 in time for nightfall.
Areas Searched:
H5(and any other school squares their search leads to, see below) - 30 - THOROUGHLY
Anything Else? Copypasting this from Louise like winner!! Jay is still with Tim and they'll both be recording everything while regularly checking the recordings to look for the warping they filmed yesterday. Since it only appears in the deeper parts of the school, they'll be checking there most intensively and comparing footage to try and find the place where it's worst (if applicable), in an attempt to trace a source. Because investigating weird film distortion has never ended badly for them before, ever.
If that bears fruit they'll continue to investigate the distortion, but if not then Jay will move on to searching the second floor of the school, on the western side, specifically looking for the teacher's lounge and anything interesting he might find there.
no subject
As they head upstairs, the brighter, less oppressive atmosphere of the stairwell relieves the tension somewhat, but it reinstates itself upstairs, and the film distortion returns. The teacher's lounge is unlocked, and everything except the machine seems accessible without an ID. The atmosphere is thick here, like trying to breathe through thick steam.
Searching the school, Jay will find a teacher's edition of a math textbook that doesn't mention dates but does cover up through what would normally be considered late middle school math despite being labeled as an elementary school resource. He will also find a child's umbrella and a very small backpack shaped like a bear, with the "mouth" opening up and accepting anything placed into it. Inside is a child's drawing of a group of shadow people surrounding a small, crouched figure.
While searching upstairs, the piano downstairs will begin to play, and will continue to play until they return downstairs, when it will stop. There is no one in the room it's in--and, of course, there aren't any strings in the piano anyway.

Day 008
Squares Traveled: 4 (through N7 to N10)
Areas Searched:
N9 - 107 - THOROUGHLY
N10 - 114 - THOROUGHLY
Anything Else? He'll start out attempting to follow Masky, but quickly lose track of him due to being terrible at tracking.
He'll be searching for any kind of clues about previous residents, particularly hoping to find more SD cards or other recordings. He'll also take any clothes if he can find them. Though he'll try to break open the locked door in 107, I'm assuming he won't be successful.
As always, he'll be recording his search on video.
ALSO
Location: Square M7, building 36
What Are They Doing? He's taking all the books in the library off the shelves and throwing them all over the floor.
no subject
Searching building 114, Jay will find a bucket of dried black paint and a blanket that's full of holes.
Day 009
Squares Traveled: 5 (straight north to N4)
Areas Searched:
N5 - 91 - QUICKLY
N4 - 85 - THOROUGHLY (not that there's much to search through)
Anything Else? As always, he's recording everything on video.

Day 010
Squares Traveled: 4
Areas Searched:
L8 - 44 - THOROUGHLY
Anything Else? He'll be hurrying more or less directly southwest, not bothering to look around much until he stumbles upon building 44 and stays there for the night. He'll search the building for anything interesting he might find, though unless he find medical supplies or spooky clues he won't bother taking things with him.
And of course, as always, he'll be filming everything.

Day 011
Squares Traveled: 5 directly to the west
Areas Searched:
I9 - 42 - QUICKLY
I9 - 43 - QUICKLY
G9 - 48 - QUICKLY
F9 - 41 - THOROUGHLY
Anything Else? He's searching specifically for anything creepy or weird that might hint at former residents, but will also stop to pick up any medicine he can find.
As always, he's filming everything.

Day 014
Squares Traveled: 3
Areas Searched:
D4 - RUBBLE - QUICKLY
E4 - BUILDING 25 - THOROUGHLY post lockdown!
Anything Else? Jay's looking for SPOOKY CLUES. He was told not to stick his nose in places it doesn't belong so of course that's making him search EVEN HARDER.
As always, he's filming everything.
no subject
Searching building 25, Jay will find a bright yellow and orange beach towel, a pink bath bomb, and an orange wash cloth.
Day 020
Squares Traveled: 3
Areas Searched:
T6 - The graveyard - PASSING THROUGH
T4 - 83 - THOROUGHLY
Anything Else? He'll be looking for signs of anything spooky with renewed vigour thanks to not remembering anything about the town. Assuming he doesn't find any kind of HINTS or CLUES, he'll pick up any medical supplies or other potentially valuable items.
And of course, everything's getting filmed.
no subject
Searching building 83, Jay will find a bag of cat litter, a can of wet cat food, and a catnip mouse.
Day 031
Squares Traveled: 4, including backtracking
Areas Searched:
SQUARE E17 - BUILDING 131 - THOROUGHLY
SQUARE E15 - BUILDING 130 - THOROUGHLY
Anything Else? After Tim's melted the ice on the keycard reader, Jay's getting his head back into the search game because GOTTA FIND THAT KEYCARD. He'll be searching through the rooftop and pharmacy as thoroughly as he can for keycards or SD cards or any other kind of cards. And filming everything, of course.
(no subject)
Day 032
Squares Traveled: 4
Areas Searched:
SQUARE E15 - BUILDING 130 - THOROUGHLY
SQUARE D11- BUILDING 58- THOROUGHLY
Anything Else? Still searching for keycards/sd cards/WEIRD SHIT, meds, and cigarettes, and filming everything as usual. And yes, I copied this from Louise like the lazy asshole I am.
