Search Requests (OLD)
Search Requests (OLD) | |||
Characters are allowed to travel across already traveled upon squares without mod intervention, but if they are traveling across unexplored squares or want to search buildings and other areas, you will have to post here. How much searching and traveling your character can do is based on the weather, any movement penalties your character may have, and any events that may otherwise hinder travel. Common sources of movement penalties are injury and being over-encumbered--if you want to try and drag a mattress around with you, don't expect to get anywhere very quickly! The base amount your character can travel is divided up by area of the map and then split between safe and potentially unsafe travel. Travel is on a per-square basis; safe travel is how many squares you can move and still have time to find a place to shelter for the night--you could reasonably expect to be able to backtrack a bit and settle down in a house if you find yourself in an empty square, while unsafe travel means you're traveling right up until the 8PM lockdown. If you end up in an empty square at that point, your character will be locked outside and die overnight of exposure. The time it takes your character to search is split into a quick search and a thorough search. SEARCHING HAPPENS ON A PER-BUILDING BASIS, NOT A PER-SQUARE BASIS. A quick search of a location gives you more time to travel; a thorough search gives you less time but can yield a larger quantity of items, as well as items that would be better-hidden. By default, a quick search uses up one square of travel time, while a thorough search uses two. Especially large buildings will take longer to explore completely, but these will be noted as they are found. As far as what you can find, typically they will be items normally associated with whatever sort of building you're in. There might be more unusual items in certain areas, though... In the case of certain buildings, things can be assumed to be included in the rooms even if they are not specifically outlined in the descriptions. There are no electronics in homes unless specifically noted. Unless otherwise noted in a specific description, assume the following is in each residential home that has these rooms mentioned: Living Room: couch, armchair, end tables, television stand, bookcases Kitchen: cupboards, counters/counter tops with drawers Dining Room: dining room table, chairs (default is six chairs) Office: desk, chair Nursery: crib, rocking chair, changing station, small dresser Bedroom: bed frame, mattress, dresser, nightstand Master Bedroom: bed frame, mattress, large dresser, two nightstands Bathroom: toiletries Electricity and running water should not be assumed to occur in a house and will be noted in case of a house having these things. If water is mentioned, it defaults to cold water. We encourage you to do your planned traveling all at once so we can get you your results as quickly as possible, but don't worry if IC circumstances lead to your character traveling twice in one day! You can comment again and we'll get back to you as soon as we can. While you're traveling in this manner, if at any point your character would come across something unusual or something they would have to react to, we will pause your travel there to allow you to see what they've come across and react accordingly. Residential Zone One: August 18 - August 31 September 1 - September 30 Residential Zone Two: August 18 - August 31 September 1 - September 30 Ice Caves: August 18 - August 31 September 1 - September 30 First, reply to this thread to make a top level comment where all of your search threads will go. This thread should have your character's name in the subject line. To travel into unexplored territory or search, fill out the following form, making sure to reference the setting page where necessary and let us know who is travelling with you, and reply to your own thread: If your character would like to alter something written in the basic description of a square or building, this is also the place to put that! For example, if your character really is going to give dragging a mattress around a try, they can take one from a house if you let us know. We can both adjust the descriptions of the locations and tell you potential results/penalties. To do this, fill out the following form and reply to your top level: Finally, we have a character location spreadsheet that lists where characters are on various days, so you can more easily see where everyone is and how it relates to your character. This is player-updated, so feel free to make a row for your character and start adding where they've been! | |||
Lynne | Ghost Trick
DAY 022
Squares Traveled: 3 (Starts Morning)
Areas Searched:
G9 - 48 - Quickly
F9 - 41 - Quickly
E9 - 47 - Thoroughly
E10 - 50 - Thoroughly, searches continue into the evening as best as she can manage (she'll probably bump into a few things though)
Anything Else? Lynne searches for a broom to help clean the scattered beads in House 48. If she can't find one in the house, she'll just give up doing floor cleaning, but either way she moves the sharper shards of glass to the side so that they won't dangerously be in anyone's path.
In the painter's house she quickly looks through if there's any canvas that hasn't been blotted out, or any photo as to their identity. She takes a picture of the scene.
Her priorities in all house searches after are finding additional means to keep warm like a scarf or gloves or other cloth scraps, and if she gets lucky, useful items for when the evening comes like candles, matches, or a flashlight. Lesser priorities are writing material like pens or sheets of paper.

Searching building 41, Lynne will find two full, unopened cans of blood red paint.
Searching building 47, Lynne will find a pair of women's purple winter boots and a mousetrap which she might end up pinching her fingers in if she's not careful reaching into boxes.
Searching building 50, Lynne will find a child's Victorian-style hat, a pair of women's Victorian-style dress shoes, and a butcher's knife.

DAY 023
Squares Traveled: 4
Areas Searched:
D10 - Passing Through
D9 - Passing Through
C9 - Passing Through
B9 - 46 - Quickly
Anything Else? Lynne has a fairly unproductive day this time around unless things come up, but she'll look into the dresser of House 46, and try to open up other windows that lead into the first floor from the outside (probably to no avail) before staying in the second floor. She also uses the ten minutes of hot water afterward for a bath.

Lynne will manage to work one of the windows open just a little--not enough to climb in, but enough for the musty, moldy smell to leak out and a low humming noise to be heard. Then a hand presses against the glass of the window from the other side and shuts the door. It's too dark to make out details, and the windows cannot be opened again.

She ends up considerably unnerved while not really having a choice to go to another house after that brief encounter--So she doesn't get a lot of sleep that night, wondering about downstairs, while still setting off when the morning comes.
DAY 024
Squares Traveled: 5
Areas Searched:
B8 - Passing Through
B7 - Passing Through
B6 - 33 (Funeral Home) - Passing Through
B5 - Passing Through
B4 - 24 - Thoroughly
Anything Else? At House 46, she peers at the window which she had managed to slightly open. Not sure if it was just her imagination the previous evening, she moves on while taking note of what happened--just in case. Lynne also takes a picture of the snow wall in the distance before heading up. She initially considers searching through the funeral home, but ends up feeling sick from the atmosphere. Early on she elects against it, and passes by instead with only a hesitant, lingering glance back.
In House 24, she searches the office for and through files--if there are any. She also looks for if there are any photos or books! Any subject matter works.

Searching building 24, Lynne will find a bright pink stapler with twenty staples left inside. She will also find a rather dry book on accounting and a loose photograph of a man, probably in his thirties, wearing an outfit with just as many bright colors as the house, grinning proudly as he stands on the lawn of the house Lynne is in. There's a bulldog in the yard, and a strange blue aura can be seen at the edges of the property.

DAY 025
Squares Traveled: 4
Areas Searched:
B3 - Passing Through
B2 - 1 (Park 1) - Quickly
C2 - Passing Through
D2 - 13 - Quickly
Anything Else? tfw life sucks. Having had a bad experience at a certain park once, Lynne doesn't like the idea of poking around here too much but sucks it up. Peering through a hole in the park, Lynne slips in and comes into contact with at least one corpse. The rigor mortis is going to make them hard to maneuver to be sure but, Lynne after the initial freak-out (like Yikes!) will try to see if there's any visibly obvious cause-of-death. Also if she can guess for how long they could've been dead--but seeing as she isn't assigned to forensics + all this snow, she's likely to come to a wrong assumption.
She was going to spend longer investigating, but noticing the time, decided to try find shelter first for the evening to check the park again at a later day.
Fairly tired out from the day and her lack of proper rest, her poking around in House 13 is mostly to see the titles/genres and if there are any names or dates on the movie posters. She'll be waking up late the next day.
no subject
Searching building 13, Lynne will find a fresh apple and a black SD card that, when inserted, downloads a movie that's the equivalent of an off-brand (but of equal quality) Casablanca onto her tablet. The posters aren't any she would recognize, but the layouts of the posters range from classic to mid 2000s. They're labeled with production dates that match these years.
