Search Requests

Search Requests

For the most part, characters are allowed to travel from uncovered square to uncovered square and gather basic items on their own, provided they announce what they're taking on the appropriate page. However, it's important that we can keep track of how everyone is moving daily, and you and your characters may want to search for more plot-relevant items. There are also squares on the map that no one has traveled to, and remain a mystery until explicitly uncovered. Thus, the search page has been created for this use.

You must report your character's movements in your thread. We want to make sure you haven't made any math mistakes and keep characters from accidentally teleporting around the map, for one, and we also want to make sure your character gets to experience any location-relevant situations. We will respond to your characters' movement updates within 48 hours with any monsters they would have run into that day and anything that would happen of note on a specific square your character traveled through, in addition to pointing out any math errors. In the case of monster encounters, while the day they happen on is random, you will be able to select exactly where they encounter them. You will have to respond to us telling us how the character(s) handled the monster. Unless something unusual happens, we will not reply to your character movement updates.

How much searching and traveling your character can do is based on the weather, any movement penalties your character may have, and any events that may otherwise hinder travel. Common sources of movement penalties are injury and being over-encumbered--if you want to try and drag a mattress around with you, don't expect to get anywhere very quickly!

Travel and search are based on the squares of the map, and all actions are discussed in terms of squares. All searching uses up squares, which means every search reduces the amount of squares your character can travel. No searching is a free action, and is added on top of square movement, so make sure to double check your math! Moving to a square and searching a building in that square both have to be thought of as separate things, not as using the same amount of time. We will provide a limit of the amount of squares your characters have to act which encompass all actions a character takes that day; if they go over that limit, they will not be able to do anything beyond the last action that would have used up a legitimate block of time.

Much like finding normal items, searches are split up into quick searches and thorough searches. A quick search takes up one square of travel time per building or area searched, while a thorough search takes up two squares of travel time per building or area searched. If you thoroughly search three buildings on one square, that would take up all of your movement at once, two per building searched.

For example, if your character really is going to give dragging a mattress around a try, they can take one from a house if you let us know. We can both adjust the descriptions of the locations and tell you potential results/penalties. "Hey, you're Andromeda, right? That tricked out robo-AI chick who loves space? You should have met Jade; space was her whole deal before she came here. She was supposed to make a whole universe, and she could shrink down planets so small enough you could hold them in your hand, if touching them weren't a bad idea. I grew up in Houston, and you couldn't really see the stars at all there, but I bet they looked hella cool out here. That's why you came here, right?

"And you weren't the only one, yeah? You were like Winter, but made in America for max patriotic stargazing. Weren't you two close? Winter acts like she was mega fond of you. And you got these because they reminder you of her, right?" Here he'll lift up the poster and the nesting dolls. "I'm not going to take these for realsies, I'm just using them to make a point. But I don't know who's told you what, so—we know she died. Not how, but she did, back during a summer, and now she's a weak AI backed up on some computer in Russia. She's said maybe we could help her if we ever got there where she is, and we've got some really smart people who know a ton about computers and AI stuff, so maybe we could do it. But right now we're pretty stuck, you know? And yeah, I know, I know—go east, town's a spiral, dig deep. That's not what I'm here for.

"Winter told us you might have a backup at town hall. I don't know if it's like that exactly, but I read up on the dreams too, what you told people. You are at the center, right? You keep the stars inside you? Are the stars people? That's what I'm guessing, from how you told Ecks she could be one, though I'm not sure about that either. You see, stuff got real fucked up recently. People lost their minds—got these strange eyes like the prophet doodles we've been seeing, and tried to kill the rest of us. And by the rest, I mean like me. You see these?" BE GRATEFUL ANDROMEDA because he'll actually take off his shades for her to better show his glowing orange eyes. "Your eyes used to glow, right? And now we're like you. We've got these eyes, and something dangerous might be going on with this prophet stuff. More than what already has.

"So what I'm asking is, if you know something more—about the prophet, about this place, about us or what happened to the people before—can you help us? Give me anything. If you keep helping us, then maybe we can find a way to help you and Winter still."

If nothing big happens during his monologue, he'll go through the house again, checking in drawers and under furniture and in any other little container or space, under couch cushions and such, even peering through the vents, to see if he can't find an SD card or any other unusual object, message or mark he missed before. He will also replace the nesting dolls and folklore poster where he found them, as promised.

Anything Else? So, House and Davesprite are going to conduct some experiments! There's been a lot of talk about the idea that they might not be the people they actually think they are, and about "anomalies"/unusual features being suppressed, so they've got some ideas to test that.

Firstly, referring back to his app, Davesprite was allowed to keep the hole through his torso where his sword used to go when he still had it. He's poked around at it with regular found objects, but in a previous conversation, Watson suggested trying with rubble since usual objects pass through anomalies, but rubble/things coated with rubble dust can touch/strike them. So, Davesprite's going to take the nails and screws he gathered on 188 and lay them out in a straight line, end-to-end, on a strip of packing tape House has, then close/wrap the packing tape around them. This way the idea is to provide some structure so that he's not just shoving nails and junk in with no way to retrieve them, and to provide some protection from the rust/sharp edges. Then, Davesprite is going to try to push this makeshift tape/nail/screw string into his sword hole to see if it will go in at all. Would it go in?

Secondly, they're going to run a test with Davesprite's blood. Referring back to this answer, Davesprite's bloodtype is B-ADJ (that is, B negative adjusted), but under a microscope still looks like a weird cross between human/bird blood that also happens to be yellow and glowy. So, House wants to check if he can receive it without problems. Searching the vet's office thoroughly turned up a syringe, so House is going to take some from Davesprite using that, then inject it into his own veins. House's blood type is AB+. Would House be able to receive it without problems, despite it not being strictly human blood? Also, I asked here and was told that someone with MN poisoning donating to someone else would worsen the recipient's symptoms temporarily, which (if House doesn't die or anything) would apply here. How long would the increase in symptoms last?
