Application
Application | |||
Applications are closed permanently. Thank you to everyone who has applied over the years! Before applying for a character, make sure you've read the rules and FAQ. You should also refer to the application guide to see what we're looking for in our applications. You may apply for one character per application cycle and three characters total. Please put your character's name and canon in the subject line of your application comment. Applications must be posted directly to this post and cannot be links. We will screen your application if you request it of us after we review it. Application challenges are allowed, but someone who did not place a reserve challenge cannot challenge a reserved application. Once reservations expire, an application challenge can only be placed before we process the character application of the applicant you would like to challenge. In the event of us nearing our application cap and having more applications than slots, we will attempt to choose the most well-written applications. First-time applicants will be processed first, then applications for second characters, and finally applications for third characters. We may allow more applications to be submitted than we have slots for in the name of greater selection. We will clarify in our response if an application is not being allowed into the game because of the cap or because of issues with the application not meeting the standards of the game. REVISION REQUEST
While Bucky's two sides as Bucky Barnes and the Winter Soldier are well-explained, we would like to see more depth added to the description of Bucky as he is in the present, which is a blend of these two sides. We feel that the application focuses more on his past personality than his current state. Additionally, we'd like to see a bit of expansion on the suitability section exploring what kinds of circumstances might cause Bucky to develop further, either positively or negatively.
Please reply to this comment with your revisions within three days or your slot will be forfeit.

Additional Personality
Bucky has been through a lot at the hands of the Soviets and it shows, he's extremely wary and constantly on the look out for threats. He has left HYDRA under his own steam after Steve triggered enough recall that he had to question everything he had been told, and he is very aware that he is hunted. Not just by HYDRA, but also by SHIELD and all the other government organisations who want to bring him to justice for the crimes the Winter Soldier committed. This makes him extremely cautious and closed off. He has disappeared in order to find himself and he is unwilling to be found by others before then. It has led to him living like a ghost, moving frequently and often taking measures such as blocking all his windows with newspapers and making sure he has a back door exit plan in case he is found.
He is a man caught in the grips of an identity crisis. He has been to the Smithsonian and seen the exhibition on Captain America, which means he has read about the Bucky Barnes he used to be and knows that HYDRA lied and Steve told him the truth. However, he still doesn't remember everything about his past, and he has been the Winter Soldier for a long time, so it is hard for him to reconcile the things he has done with the man he used to be. He knows, logically, that what HYDRA had him do is not his fault, but he still feels guilt over his actions.
The guilt over what he has done, and the trauma of the inhumane treatment at the hands of the Soviets, have left an indelible mark on him. He is terrified of becoming the Winter Soldier again and that is likely one of the reasons he has not sought out Steve again, despite now remembering a lot of what the other man means to him. He doesn't trust himself. He knows everything HYDRA put inside him is still there, it would just take the correct circumstances to have him trying to kill again. He knows who he is now, or is starting to, and he doesn't want to go back to what he was before.
However, despite all he has been through, Bucky maintains a core of determination to survive and to find his way. He has not laid down and given up, he has not shied away from trying to learn more about himself. He is capable of interacting with the world and people around him in a normal fashion, purchasing food and so forth, but he retains his distance. He has lost much of the humour, charm, and trusting nature that he possessed when he was a young man, though he is striving to get back there.
Additional Suitability
Bucky is used to surviving in extremely harsh terrain and dealing with hostile environments, so he is definitely suitable for the setting of the game. He is still trying to establish himself as Bucky in his head once more, and the cooperative nature of the community may help him do that. This is a place he won't be able to survive in just by keeping to himself and running, especially with his weapons gone and his strength dulled to that of a normal (albeit in good shape) man. Having to work with others, as well as the presence of Steve, may help him develop in positive ways back towards a healthier state of mind.
However, it could equally go the opposite way. Norfinbury frequently deals in psychological horror, with voices and lapses in reality which are designed to unnerve and unsettle. These, in addition to the exposure effects (such as paranoia), the possible threat of sudden violence in monster encounters or unfriendly PCs, could easily send him in the other direction and set him back towards a much more reckless and Winter Soldier-esque path.
ACCEPTED
The first floor of this building is completely ruined. There's no staircase to be found, so getting to the intact second floor is a matter of climbing on dangerously loose-looking rubble. The second floor has a bedroom, bathroom, office, and what once was a hallway closet that now is just a door that opens to the outside, with that portion of the wall ruined. It rattles at night, and sometimes the doorknob turns on its own, but it's probably just the wind, or something.
