Application

Applications are closed permanently. Thank you to everyone who has applied over the years!

Before applying for a character, make sure you've read the rules and FAQ. You should also refer to the application guide to see what we're looking for in our applications. You may apply for one character per application cycle and three characters total. Please put your character's name and canon in the subject line of your application comment. Applications must be posted directly to this post and cannot be links. We will screen your application if you request it of us after we review it.

Application challenges are allowed, but someone who did not place a reserve challenge cannot challenge a reserved application. Once reservations expire, an application challenge can only be placed before we process the character application of the applicant you would like to challenge.

In the event of us nearing our application cap and having more applications than slots, we will attempt to choose the most well-written applications. First-time applicants will be processed first, then applications for second characters, and finally applications for third characters. We may allow more applications to be submitted than we have slots for in the name of greater selection. We will clarify in our response if an application is not being allowed into the game because of the cap or because of issues with the application not meeting the standards of the game.

No problem on the delay!

Overall, Emily is a ten-year-old child. No matter which run the player decides to take with Corvo, Emily's personality will be affected for that reason. She's ten, she's impressionable, and Corvo is the last adult close to her left. Full trust is put into Corvo. Naturally, in Norfinbury, it'll take a bit for her to form an unbreaking bond with anyone else like the one she has with Corvo, but once she does, others people's actions will similarly affect how she conducts herself as a person. (Or if these people say, "Hell, yeah, this is how you do it, kiddo!" as they blow someone's head off.)

In low chaos, Corvo finishes missions either by killing no one or through use of the environment or non-lethal Void powers. Targets are eliminated by tweaks to the surroundings, and their deaths are, in essence, results of carelessness or bad luck. This way, when Corvo returns to the Hound Pits, he literally has no blood on his hands and the rumors that follow him are not ones of a horrific killing machine plowing down the higher powers. Corvo's own personality remains gentle and understanding, and the others of the Hound Pits see and talk of this to and around Emily.

In speaking with Emily in low chaos, the player finds she is just as curious and playful as when you first meet her at the beginning of the game, if a bit distant due to witnessing the death of her mother and her kidnapping. Her artwork is bright, sometimes silly, sometimes hopeful. She still dreams of learning to fight or sail, or of just generally being a badass.

The future for her isn't so bad. A lot of people in Dunwall aren't so nice, and Dunwall isn't so nice itself, but plague and assholes be damned, Emily is sure things will work out for the better as long as Corvo is at her side, guiding her. Some people are good, some people change, and Emily seems ready to follow in the footsteps of her mother. She'll be an understanding, governing body that fights for the people.

On the other hand, in high chaos, Corvo seeks revenge on those who played a hand in the Empress' death. Guards, some civilians, and targets are all killed either by weapon or by lethal Void powers. Corvo returns to the Hound Pits darker and bloodier, and the rumors through the city color him as a masked, vengeful hunter.

Emily is different as people speak to her about the darkness in Corvo's heart, and she notices it herself. Even if Corvo doesn't say it, she knows he is a murderer. And if Corvo, a man she greatly admires, can do things this viciously, she thinks she can, too. Her artwork is morbid and scary. Corvo is drawn as a monster. Emily's isn't carefree or playful. She's been tainted by bloodlust, and will tell the player some pretty dark things.

The future for her in high chaos is bleak. Everyone is out to kill her, like they killed her mother and her grandfather. No one can be trusted, and no one should be; she's seen the worse in many, and Corvo has destroyed them all. Ruling should be done with an iron fist, mercilessly, bending people to her will so that things can be controlled and can go according to what will not only save her reign, but what she thinks is the best.

Both low and high chaos versions of Emily all depend heavily upon her impressionability. As Corvo changes the city with his actions, he also changes the people in it, including Emily. She models his behavior because he is close to her, a figure of importance and authority. Basically, her bestie papa is either fighting to fix the city or murdering every single person in sight because he's upset, and she thinks either of these are A-OK to emulate depending on the player's choice.

The same will be true in Norfinbury. She's post-game low chaos, but her impressionability hasn't gone away. She's still ten and still a child.

For the most part, she will tackle challenges and people with mercy, understanding, and curiosity; however, this doesn't mean she can't begin to mimic the darker ways of friends she may make in the game or the horrors she receives from the environment.

Emulation doesn't necessarily mean she will be a full-blown high chaos version of Emily, or that she will even be affected at all. Occurrences of high chaos traits are only an indication there's a possibility if other characters choose to nurture those kinds of traits she does exhibit.
