Applications are closed permanently. Thank you to everyone who has applied over the years!

Before applying for a character, make sure you've read the rules and FAQ. You should also refer to the application guide to see what we're looking for in our applications. You may apply for one character per application cycle and three characters total. Please put your character's name and canon in the subject line of your application comment. Applications must be posted directly to this post and cannot be links. We will screen your application if you request it of us after we review it.

Application challenges are allowed, but someone who did not place a reserve challenge cannot challenge a reserved application. Once reservations expire, an application challenge can only be placed before we process the character application of the applicant you would like to challenge.

In the event of us nearing our application cap and having more applications than slots, we will attempt to choose the most well-written applications. First-time applicants will be processed first, then applications for second characters, and finally applications for third characters. We may allow more applications to be submitted than we have slots for in the name of greater selection. We will clarify in our response if an application is not being allowed into the game because of the cap or because of issues with the application not meeting the standards of the game.

Personality:
Staying true to the cats his race resembles, Lehko likes lounging around on high places, being lazy, carefree, and is a bit of a manipulator. Alright, a bit is putting it lightly, he's absolutely a manipulator. Whether it's putting on a show to get food, to the point of stopping mid sentence, grabbing his stomach, and crumpling like a man starved, or almost single handedly bringing about the genocide of his own people—Lehko has his ways of getting what he wants.

Now, I know that seems to paint him like some heartless asshole, and maybe that's because he is in some ways. The food thing certainly painted him as this fragile sort of dude, not above begging for scraps of food—it made him appear harmless, even incompetent in a way. Pathetic. Much to how Mithran culture seems to think males should be. He eats it up, because if he can make himself seem as non-threatening as possible, then it makes people lower their defenses, and he can play with that. He can get close, he can learn about the person—learn what works against the person. His weapons, as he states, are his words and his wiles.

As for the whole genocide thing, well, that's a bit deeper than him merely being evil. He isn't, for the record. He's done bad things, done some really screw up stuff, but he isn't evil. Not naturally, anyway. To start this off, there's quite a bit of background to explain why Lehko is the way he is. In Mithran culture, there is pretty much a 10:1 ratio for females vs males, perhaps even lower, it's never strictly stated but they are RARE. Males are in such short supply, they can barely risk them leaving their homes, or doing much beyond raising kids and being used for procreation purposes. This is so strictly enforced, that Lehko is the only male Mithra we see in the entirety of the game, there is literally no other male mithra in ANY of the lands the players have access to. You can't even play one. They are THAT rare.

In fact, there's a comment on how even the female Mithra in Windurst have likely never seen a male Mithra before. As such, they hardly know how to act around one, and tend to let their hormones take over. Instantly getting into fights over Lehko, and pulling on him, and even when he was trying to escape, one threw a trident at him. Lovely bunch, these ladies! As such, Lehko tends to deflect with flirting, almost like it's a defense mechanism. Even when he's away, he makes comments on how the women are savages and so on, clearly disliking them a lot. If you play a female character, certain things he will answer with flirting and not give the juicy details, but if you play a guy, he then goes into detail. Which leads one to think he trusts men far more easily than women, and for good reason.

Anyways, back on track, so already being a male Mithra isn't all that great, but when you add that on top of the fact that Lehko's mother might have MAYBE caused a huge bloody civil war between the tribes, you start to get some perspective on Lehko's side of things. Using a bow of light she made from an overly powerful stone called magicite, it took over her mind and made her worst qualities come out: hatred, jealousy, etc. Making her go on a rampage, killing many people, and kicking off a war. Then got herself executed, thus labeling her and all of her kin sinners in the eyes of the Motherland. The Motherland being a place where whatever the High Matriarch says is law, even if it's not fair or just. That's where the problems really began for Lehko.

Lehko was young when this happen, and so he left the Motherland quickly in order to save himself from following his mother's footsteps and getting a swift execution. He had been on the run ever since. This happened ten years ago (from the Wings of the Goddess timeline), and he's known little more than a life on the run, traveling to far off lands in an attempt to shake the sin hunters. So, while he claims he likes the wanderer's life, it's more so that's pretty much all he's known out of necessity to survive. Not that it worked for long, when one of the sin hunters found him, bound him, and threw him into a frozen lake to die. And die he did—or should have. In his last moments, he cursed his race, and pleaded that he might be given the chance to exact revenge on them for what they had done to his family. To which he received an answer.

A cait sith—a whimsical feline spirit that has god-like powers—came to him, resurrecting him and fusing herself to his soul. In exchange for allowing him his revenge, she would use his body as a vessel (she had lost her physical form due to unknown reasons, and without one she would perish). A fair trade, I'd say. Soon after this, he met Rokbel-Akbel, and became his tactical advisor for the war Windurst was currently suffering. He had tactical experience, but the most important part of this was that he could offer the War Warlock an army. A mithran army, for little to no cost—eventually.

The whole time he's doing this, however, he's being tailed by the sin hunter who killed him. Color her surprised when she realizes he's still alive, and despite the fact she was able to kill him so easily, he still antagonizes her, and gives her half-hearted quips about how intimidating and frightening she is, while being entirely blase about it. Clearly having little respect for her, challenging her, knowing full well if she did attack him, she'd have to answer to Windurst. So, in some ways, he's a bit of a cocky shithead when he really dislikes a person, but otherwise he tends to hold himself pretty pleasantly to most. Catch for flies with honey, as it goes. However, no point to offer honey to something that sees not its appeal.

While Lehko's family were branded sinners, it seems as though who all that encompasses wasn't common knowledge, because for some reason Lehko could get in contact with the High Matriarch, make arrangements with her to supply Windurst mithran troops (for no small amount of coin either, though impermanent the cost), and deliver the army he promised to Rokbel-Akbel. See, Lehko's plan actually becomes quite devious when you delve into the particulars, Windurst was worried about the indefinite debt they would owe the Motherland, but Lehko offered them an easy solution: after so many of their mercenaries get slaughtered in battle, being literal cannon fodder, the Motherland will be weak and defenseless; that is when Windurst strikes. For who does the debtor pay when the creditor is no more? Ultimately, he wants to destroy his country, and slaughter his own people, and he was using the Crystal War for that purpose.

Almost got away with it too, but he actually started to have a change of heart. See, this is where him not being completely evil comes in. It's true that most of his motivations were for vengeance, for his family, for what wrongs were pinned against him, but despite that, as he worked with the Mithra mercenaries, he got to know them. Some stopped treating him like a mere object of their desires, and like a person. Not like the sinner he was branded to be. He had faced many battles with them, even being on the battle field, taking charge, and bravely saving some of them when the situation asked for it. He dropped his flirty facade in these instances, and was a bit more blunt with them, but it was for their own good, for their own survival. He's a bit a chameleon when it comes to situations, shifting himself as needs be to better suit the survivability of such, and he did so numerous times in the skirmishes he lead. Which lent itself in aiding him to see past the people he had grown to hate, as the individuals they truly were.

For the last 10 years of his life, he knew only to fear his race, to run and hide so that he wouldn't end up like his mother. Of course he demonized them, and didn't see them as people, seeing them as more barbaric savages than anything else. However, he grew to like them—those under his command, and see them as more than the perpetrators of his unjust sentence and branding. Still, while he loathes his own kind, the few that proved different to him did so enough to shake him of his bloody course, made him focus his attention on actually helping Windurst—and the mithra, than continuing to use the war and Windurst as a slaughter house for his kind.

However, despite his heart softening, he fully admits he doesn't regret any of the deaths he caused, but he simply doesn't want to cause any more. He further exemplifies his change of heart by facing down Fenrir, who was summoned to protect Windurst but then absorbed his summoners because he was too strong to contain. Keeping his word to Rokbel-Akbel, that if the summoning went wrong, he would slay him. He does, with the help of the Adventurer, but not before becoming lethally wounded. Pretending he's fine, he sends the adventurer and the others on their way without him, closing and locking the door so they cannot get to him, before succumbing to his wounds and collapsing. After a quick exchange with the Cait Sith who is ready to part, to rejoin the others, he admits that he no longer wants revenge, and that he is satisfied.

Of course he doesn't stay dead, because apparently the cait sith liked him a lot, despite him killing thousands of his own kind. So, once the Cait Sith was whole (since there's like 10 fragments, then they join together to make voltron, I mean, megacait sith, I mean... yeah whatever), he gets brought back to life. For a second time. With this third chance granted, he decides to ditch Windurst, saying he's done enough damage (particularly when his whole KILL YOUR CREDITOR thing isn't gonna work and Windurst is ABSOLUTELY going to be in debt), and wants to go wandering. Despite Romaa (the officer below him whom he had grown closest to out of the Mithran mercenaries) pleading with him to stay, he decides to leave anyways, cuz the wanderer's life calls to him. Or so he says. He did apparently bang Romaa at some point? Cuz she holds her stomach all dramatic and is like "I'll wait for you... We'll wait for you" but with how quick Lehko is willing to leave, he doesn't seem as attached as she is. Even 20 years later (when the main story is taking place, since the Crystal war is 20 years in the past. TIME SHENANIGANS) Lehko never returns to Romaa, and she's still waiting for him.

SO NOT ONLY IS HE A MANIPULATING GENOCIDAL TWICE-DEAD CAT, HE'S ALSO A DEADBEAT DAD.

Flavor Abilities:
Since Lehko is a mithra, they have very powerful ears and noses, but he'll of course be limited to the range of what humans can hear/smell. As well as this, he has a tail, which affords him better balance than what people without tails might have. Of course, humans are capable of incredible balance, and his balance isn't necessarily inhuman in ability, it just aids him in achieving it far more easily than without. He also has very fast reflexes, and can do acrobatics with ease. He's very nimble, and can do back flips like a skilled gymnast.

Due to his Mithra heritage, his body is also completely covered in very fine fur, and while it doesn't really offer much protection from the cold, he'd likely be able to handle it a touch more easier because of the small fuzzy barrier it affords him. Of course, not gonna save him in a life or death situation, if anything, he'll just take a little longer to become a cat-popsicle.

Other than those things, he's a skilled fighter, even if he tends to not engage most the time. He mainly fights with throwing knives, and has impeccable aim. Having once hit a gigas (a troll-like beast) in the eyes, through the slots in his helmet, while on the back of a chocobo. Boy got aim! If you ever find yourself in a situation where you need someone to hit an apple off your head with a throwing knife, he's your guy!

Suitability:
Lehko is a wanderer, and as such he's been to many distant lands, and has a pretty good experience with the strange and foreign. As such, he'll find Norfinbury pretty fascinating! He'll absolutely want to figure out why they're there, and with being a bit of a huge manipulator (unapologetically so), he'll definitely be wanting to make connections with his fellow captives, using them to figure out the pieces of the puzzles to the mystery.

He's a resourceful sort of dude, and is a survivor (he has technically died twice, after all, and is still alive despite it). He'll certainly struggle a bit, though, since he's grown slightly complacent with his time in Windurst, where food was aplenty, and the climate was rather tropical. I think it'll be fun playing through his acclimating to the biting cold after being in pretty much a paradise—well, if you ignore the war they were fighting in.
