Applications are closed permanently. Thank you to everyone who has applied over the years! Before applying for a character, make sure you've read the rules and FAQ. You should also refer to the application guide to see what we're looking for in our applications. You may apply for one character per application cycle and three characters total. Please put your character's name and canon in the subject line of your application comment. Applications must be posted directly to this post and cannot be links. We will screen your application if you request it of us after we review it. Application challenges are allowed, but someone who did not place a reserve challenge cannot challenge a reserved application. Once reservations expire, an application challenge can only be placed before we process the character application of the applicant you would like to challenge. In the event of us nearing our application cap and having more applications than slots, we will attempt to choose the most well-written applications. First-time applicants will be processed first, then applications for second characters, and finally applications for third characters. We may allow more applications to be submitted than we have slots for in the name of greater selection. We will clarify in our response if an application is not being allowed into the game because of the cap or because of issues with the application not meeting the standards of the game. [DEMIGODHOOD] (cw: references to the Holocaust and the experiments of Josef Mengele)
The afterlife for scions who had died prior to ascending to godhood, the Hotel California, was Tess's first encounter with false realities. Its keeper, Ward (son of Hades and Persephone), utilized a system that kept the dead scions' souls docile by convincing each of them that they were living out their ideal life.
It quickly became clear that Ward intended to betray them, but more importantly, the group discovered that Google was being held prisoner in the Hotel's deepest chambers. They were appalled at the condition in which he was being kept and, having already heard rumors that the other gods weren't even trying to find a cure for what was wrong with him and his brothers, resolved to free him. They did so with the assistance of a titanspawn prisoner of the Hotel, Lucifer (yes, that Lucifer), in exchange for freeing him as well. When they attempted to flee the Hotel they were stopped by Ward and the Morrigan, who had enlisted Ward's help in setting a trap. The Morrigan was known among the gods for eating her own children, and the Dick-Kickers had been aware from the start that she intended to someday eat her daughter Dianna, who was one of their number. They naturally refused to hand Dianna over to be devoured, and were saved from near-certain annihilation by Lucifer fighting the Morrigan on their behalf, forcing her to flee.
Google immediately went on a rampage through the other underworlds where his brothers were being held. He destroyed the realm known as Hel (where TV was being kept), and the goddess also known as Hel was briefly thought to have been killed before she turned up at his side as a mindless cyborg. The Dick-Kickers attempted to intervene when they realized Google and TV would destroy the Egyptian afterlife next in order to free Celebrity, but were unable to talk the crazed brothers down. This time it was Chronos, the Greek god of time, who interfered just as they found themselves about to be in the middle of a battle between major deities.
Chronos offered the Dick-Kickers a solution. He knew of only one person in all of history capable of creating the antidote that would cure the Body Electric and bring them back in control of themselves: Josef Mengele, who in Tess's world had been a scion. The group agreed to allow Chronos to send them back in time to the second world war in order to infiltrate Mengele's lab. To Tess's horror, they were quickly spotted and identified as scion interlopers and were forced to take a more diplomatic approach, hiding their disgust for Mengele and for the crimes against humanity going on around them under false flattery long enough to convince him to show them the results of his experiments in stealing or restoring the divinity of the gods. As Mengele was using the remains of the recently slain American god Uncle Sam to ascend to an unholy plane of being and become a Titan-like disease upon the world (an event Chronos had already told them was preordained by fate), Tess and the others stole materials from his lab and hastily returned to the modern day, where they were able to cure the Body Electric and attempt to head off an outright war between the pantheons. All the same, Google and TV attacked the Atzlanti in the wake of these events; among others they murdered Tess's father, Quetzalcoatl. At that time, too, the semi-restored Hel chose to join the Body Electric as their new death god.
With the other pantheons not wanting to involve themselves further in the now settled strife between the Body Electric and the Atzlanti, there was at last a brief lull of a few months. The Body Electric, back to their proper selves again, approached Tess and the others to invite them to join their pantheon. Tess and Dianna both accepted -- Dianna in order to distance herself from her dangerous mother, and Tess because her friendship with the Body Electric had led her down a path of more technological focus, and she felt at home among them. Though she wasn't entirely at ease with the fact that they had killed her father, she had had so little direct contact with Quetzalcoatl and had been so disgusted by her original pantheon in general that she was willing to accept the Body Electric's actions against him and the rest of the Atzlanti. She was formally adopted as a daughter of Google.
Loki, working through back channels, lured the Dick-Kickers to the island of Crete under false pretenses. When they uncovered his lies, he admitted that his aim was to destroy Crete in order to use the humans living on the island as the exchange of life needed to raise the island of Atlantis and resurrect its pantheon -- because the people of Crete had been responsible for the destruction of Atlantis millennia before, it was Crete that must be destroyed in order to bring it back. Had the group not uncovered his lies, they would almost certainly have been tricked into causing the eruption of a volcano that would have ended all life on the island.
Foolishly confident that they now knew where things stood, the Dick-Kickers decided to find a way to raise Atlantis without destroying modern day Crete. Gio was the one to realize that they could enlist Chronos's help to channel the energy from the lives lost in the Minoan Eruption ca2,000 BCE, allowing Atlantis to be raised without additional loss of life. Loki agreed, provided they could assemble a team of gods capable of the task. Along with Chronos they recruited Paul Bunyan of the American pantheon, who immediately charmed the entire group with his good nature and his eagerness to help.
The plan should have been a success. The Minoan Eruption was more than sufficient to raise the lost city and its gods, and the group was able to shield modern day Crete from all ill effects. Things went sideways, though, when Loki, Hermes, and the Monkey King redirected some of the power that had been unleashed to release the Titans from captivity. Loki had long ago been fatebound by a prophecy that he would bring about Ragnarok, and in striking a deal with the Titans the three tricksters hoped that at least some of the gods would be allowed to survive the coming apocalypse.
It was then that Chronos revealed to the Dick-Kickers that he was not actually a god of time, but rather an avatar of the Greater Titan of Time. He spoke of fate and prophecies, informing them that they would become known as the Children of Ragnarok, and that their reappearance in ten years' time would herald a time of hope and restoration. Ignoring their protests, Chronos relocated them a decade forward in time just as they made the final ascension to true godhood.
